This particular message has nothing whatsoever to do with Credit Control but maybe it can help us re-focus a bit in our day to day lives.
Just a couple of weeks ago, I went for a walk through the woods at Emo Court in County Laois. The trees were at their most magnificent – displaying nearly all the colours of the rainbow. The highlight was a Maple, covered in leaves of the brightest red you could imagine. It stood out like a beacon in the forest and many people were taking photographs of it.
It brought home to me that Ireland can be a beautiful country. Each season has it’s own particular attractions and I love a cold, crisp, frosty morning in Winter when it can be a joy to be out walking. I know that there are many things to complain about in Ireland but being out and about at this time of year helps to do away with the negativity and concentrate on the positives.
I suppose it’s a bit like that in our businesses. We sometimes tend to complain about all the things that go wrong but how many of us take the time to appreciate the good things? If our businesses are even moderately successful, then we probably have enough for the necessities of life and, hopefully, a little bit for the odd treat as well. I heard a lovely saying recently – “All my daily needs are catered for at this moment in time”. if you think about it, anyonee who can say this truthfully is very lucky. Maybe it’s time we developed an “Attitude of Gratitiude” and be thankful for all the little successes we have in our lives and for all that we have, instead of constantly wishing for what we want instead of what we need.
Now, I can almost hear some of you thinking – “that’s all very well but I still have to make a living”. True but it would do no harm to concentrate on the positive every day and see how that can change things for us.
