Well here we are in the last week of August and all is well with the world. Dublin in another All-Ireland Final and Manchester United unbeaten – Happy days. But I’m under no illusions. Success is fleeting and I’m enjoying it for the moment.
One of the most pleasing aspects of Dublin’s win over Kerry yesterday was the resilience in the face of adversity shown by the players. They were on the ropes at half time but they came out for the second half with fresh resolve and fully deserved theth ofir two point victory. And they are now rewarded with another appearance in an All-Ireland Final on the 18th of September. Up the Dubs !!
We all need to show this same resilience in our businesses. When things are going well, all is good but when we’re under pressure – for whatever reason – we have to be sure that we’re up for the struggle. Cash Flow is one area where it can be very difficult to “Keep on Keeping on”. Customers that owe you money keep trotting out the same old excuses as to why they won’t pay and eventually the temptation can arise to just throw your hat at it and write it off. But remember, this is YOUR MONEY we’re talking about and you are entitled to be paid for the Goods and Services you provide. if a customer owes you money, keep after them – persistently and consistently – and let them know that you’re not going away. You’re entitled to be paid – remember : A Sale is not a Sale until the Money is in YOUR Bank Account.
So, like the Dublin GAA team and backroom staff, develop a ” We won’t be beaten” attitude to your debtors and make sure that you get paid for your work.
