It’s amazing how many business owners are reluctant to ask for the money they are owed by their customers. I think it comes from a combination of shyness, fear of upsetting a customer or just being too busy doing what they do well to chase payment. I can’t stress enough how important it is that you ASK for YOUR MONEY. be courteous but also be persisitent and consistent. A tegular request for payment will usually ensurethat you’re one of the people that your customers pay on a regular basis. You know the cliche – “Out of Sight, Out of Mind” but like most cliches, it’s true. If your customers don’t hear from you, you won’t be in their minds when they make their payments. When your accounts fall due, contact the customer and this lets them know that you expect to be paid. If they promise a payment, take a note of it and, if they don’t follow through, contact them again. Remember, IT’S YOUR MONEY.
And never forget, “A sale is not a Sale until the Money is in Your Bank Account” – not your customer’s. You need to be able to pay your own suppliers when they come to you looking for their money.
